KT TUNSTALL MAY 3
EYE TO THE TELESCOPE
KT Tunstall made a remarkable debut with her 2004 multi-platinum album Eye to the Telescope, featuring global hits like “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” and “Suddenly I See.” These tracks showcased her unique blend of introspective folk and edgy rock, quickly establishing her as a captivating artist with a compelling live presence. Tunstall describes her style as rooted in two distinct pillars: a troubadour, acoustic guitar-driven side, and a sharper, rocker edge.
In recent years, the Grammy-nominated Scottish musician has focused on a trilogy of albums, each themed around soul, body, and mind. Beginning with KIN (2016) for the soul, WAX (2018) for the body, and most recently NUT for the mind, this series explores her artistic evolution and life’s patterns. Produced by Martin Terefe, NUT draws on West African rhythms to metaphorically represent the brain’s learning pathways. Tracks like “Canyons” and “Private Eyes” delve into themes of personal identity and fame, while “Three” reflects on the trilogy’s overarching exploration of mind, body, and soul. Tunstall emphasizes her drive to avoid creative repetition, always seeking fresh and meaningful directions in her music.
