Poker is such a popular game because it has so many variations and so many great chances to win. Every type of player can find a game they like with poker. With Three Card Primer, fewer cards means that the game play is tighter, but it also means that the bets come faster and, sometimes, more lucratively.
Three Card Prime may seem simple, but it can pose a challenge for even the most seasoned players. Here’s a quick look at this exciting table game:
Game play for Three Card Prime is relatively simple. The dealer will give out three cards to each of the players and then three cards to themselves. Players must make an ante bet, but they can also place optional side bets, such as the Pair Bonus or Prime bet.
Game play is between the dealer and each of the players. The goal is to try to beat the dealer’s hand. The best hand from the three cards wins. The options are a queen high (any hand as long as there is a queen in it), a pair, a flush, a straight, three of a kind, or a straight flush, in ascending order. The highest hand in Three Card Prime is a straight flush.
After players look at their cards, but before their cards are revealed to the table, they must choose to either fold (drop out of play) or to place a “play” bet. After those bets are placed, the cards are revealed and the winner is determined.
There are several scenarios in which you can win money at Three Card Prime, and not all of them involve beating the dealer’s hand. The dealer must have at least a queen high to “qualify.” If the dealer does not qualify, you win the ante bet, but the play bet will stay on the table for the next hand.
If the dealer does qualify, the cards are compared to those of each player. Each player that has a better hand will then get a 1:1 payout on the ante and play bets. If the dealer has the better hand, the house takes those bets. If the dealer and player’s hands are tied, the bets remain in play for the next hand.
Side bets are also paid out. The Pair Plus bet wagers that the player will get at least a pair or better on the hand. That bet is won even if the dealer has a better hand overall.
