21 + 3 at Spokane Tribe Casino

Blackjack is one of the most popular table games at the Spokane Tribe Casino – and at just about any casino anywhere. It’s a fast-moving game that’s both exciting and easy to play. Beginners can play Blackjack and have a fun time, yet professionals find it challenging enough to come back to it time and time again, as well.

If you’re looking for ways to make Blackjack even more exciting, there are several gameplay strategies you can try and different bets you can make. One popular side bet for Blackjack is known as 21+3. The bet takes its name from Blackjack – trying to get to a total of 21 – and a side bet placed on the value of three other cards.

BLACKJACK BASICS

Before we jump into how to play 21+3, let’s start by taking a look at the basics of how to play Blackjack. This popular game has a simple premise: Form a hand that totals to 21 without going over. Play is between the dealer and each player. Whoever has the highest total without going over 21 will win.

Blackjack starts with two cards to the dealer and to each player at the table. Players place bets before the cards are dealt, and they have the option to raise their bets after receiving their first two cards. The players’ cards are dealt face down, while the dealer’s cards are dealt so that one is facing down and one is facing up.

Players can ask for additional cards, one at a time, until they reach 21, go over, or decide that they want to stay where they are.

PLACING A 21 + 3 SIDE BET

To place a 21+3 side bet, you need to make the bet before your cards are dealt. There is a 21+3 box on the game table, and you would place your bet inside that box. You place the bet at the same time that you place your opening bet for the main Blackjack game.

Once the first two cards are dealt, and any raise bets are made on the main game, the dealer will look at the cards and determine who has won the 21+3 bet (for those who placed the bet). Any losing bets are collected, and any winning bets are paid out. Then the primary game play will continue.

WINNING A 21 + 3 SIDE BET

To win a 21+3 side bet, you will need to look at the hand created from the first two cards you are dealt, plus the dealer’s card that is facing up. These three cards can form one of several, traditional poker hands, such as a straight or a flush.

Winning hands in a 21+3 side bet include:

  • Flush, which can include any face cards, so long as they are of the same suit
  • Straight flush, which must include face cards in consecutive order and of the same suit
  • Straight, which can include cards of any suit, so long as they are in consecutive order
  • Three of a kind, which can be of any suit, so long as they are matching values
  • Suited three of a kind, which must have matching values and be of the same suit

Unfortunately, there is absolutely no strategy to getting a winning hand or to placing the bet. This bet is based purely on luck – which is part of what makes it so exciting for so many people. When you place your bet, you have no idea what cards are going to be dealt and no strategy to predict them or to improve your odds.

How much a 21+3 bet pays out depends on the casino and depends on the winning hand. The standard payout for these bets is as follows:

  • Flush – 5:1
  • Straight – 10:1
  • Three of a kind – 30:1
  • Straight flush – 40:1
  • Suited three of a kind – 100:1

The less likely a combination of cards is, the higher the odds and the higher the winning payout. The odds will be impacted depending on how many decks of cards are being used in the game – whether there are the standard six decks or just one deck.

The overall odds for winning a 21+3 bet are 9:1.

Always check the specific odds at any casino you play at, and even each time you visit the casino. Odds tables can be changed, and you want to be sure you know what your chances are before you place your bet.
